Christopher Whitelaw Pine was born on August 26, 1980, in Los Angeles, California. Pine has been exposed to the world of entertainment and acting from birth as his father is actor Robert Pine and mother former actress transitioned into practicing psychotherapist Gwynne Gilford. His maternal grandmother was esteemed early to mid-20th-century actress and early ‘scream queen' Anne Gwynne.

During his time at the University of California at Berkeley Pine began to venture into acting through the UC Berkeley Theater Department. His earliest on-stage roles in college were mostly written by William Shakespeare and Caryl Churchill. As his love and knack for theatre grew Pine also spent a year abroad at the University of Leeds during his time at UC Berkeley. In 2002 Pine graduated with a Bachelors in English Literature and later continued to perfect his theatrical craft at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.

Career Beginnings & The Princess Diaries (2003 – 2008)

The year following his graduation from UC Berkeley, Pine began his official acting career. In 2003 he began to make television appearances- first on an episode of the then-popular medical drama ER. Later that same year he went on to make guest appearances in shows such as CSI: Miami as well as The Guardian.

His debut big screen performances came in the year 2004 starting with the short film Why Germany? but most notably as the love interest to Anne Hathaway's character, Mia, in The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement as Nicholas Devereaux. The film grossed $134.7 million worldwide making it a success and further putting Pine on the map.

Two years later Pine's next leading role would be that of Jake in the romantic comedy Just My Luck alongside Lindsey Lohan. The film debuted at # 4 in box offices across North America and grossed $38.2 million worldwide. This film did not have as much commercial success as The Princess Diaries, however, it was another step in the advancement of Pine's career.

In the years following Just My Luck, Pine also performed in the play Fat Pig (2007) by Neil LaBute which his performance received positive reviews from critics. He also starred in the 2008 film Bottle Shock which was not as much of commercial success in comparison to his previous feature films.

In 2009 Pine took on the lead role of Captain James T. Kirk in the reboot of the 1970s hit series Star Trek. The film received critical acclaim and praise. Star Trek grossed $385.7 million making it a worldwide success. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards and even won the Academy Award for Best Makeup. Star Trek also won a Hollywood Award for Best Movie and its soundtrack was even nominated for a Grammy.

The following year in 2010 Pine starred alongside award-winning actor Denzel Washington in the action thriller Unstoppable. The film is based on the true story of a runaway locomotive in Pennsylvania that was stopped by two heroic conductors. Unstoppable recieved generally positive from critics and was even nominated for an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing.

As his career progresses Pine has also dabbled in voice acting with the animated films Rise of the Guardians (2012) as Jack Frost and Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse (2018) as the voice of Peter Parker.
